10 – Hanging above the abyss

You may have noticed that as well as being a contributor to this website, I have also become its editor (that is to say: of the Dutch-language section). If you have, you probably also realise that the second task still gives me some problems.

I am constantly afraid that something will go terribly wrong. The website is far from being an open book for me. On the contrary, right now it seems to resemble Italo Calvino’s spider-web city of Octavia: a network suspended across a precipice between two steep mountains. With every step I take, I am painfully aware of the abyss beneath me.

What keeps me going is a vague, irrational belief in the future: in my experience that can take you a long way.
