Everyone is elated about the renovation of Nassauplein. Me too, don’t let there be any misunderstanding, but please allow me a bit of a moan. For how did the necessity for such a rigorous facelift come about?
That’s right, because for so many years regular maintenance was sorely neglected. The municipality allowed the place to become seriously run down.
No doubt there is some bright spark in city hall, who will argue that the chosen policy (minimal upkeep and every x number of years a major overhaul) is cheaper in the long run. All very well, but don’t ask me to like it. A new cycle is about to begin. So enjoy the attractive, newly revamped public garden, while it lasts.
