Dutch record breaking “Stoelendans” on September 21st
On September 6th, 2017 anyone affiliated with the beautiful island of St. Maarten/ Saint Martin lives were drastically changed. Can you imagine talking to your parents one day and then not being able to contact them for over 72 hours? Or what about knowing what you’re beautiful island looks like and then watching pictures and not being able to recognize places that you’ve visited for years.
This was what happened for those of us St. Maarten born and raised students currently residing within the Netherlands.
After seeing the devastation that has occurred back home, a group of St. Maarten students at the Hague University of Applied Sciences have banded together in order to help our families and friends back home. Our initiative, called “HHS 4 SXM,” will officially begin tomorrow, Thursday September 14th. As of tomorrow, students will be able to make both monetary and tangible donations at an arranged booth at the school.
Alongside the collection of goods, a Musical Chairs event has also been organized. This event will take place on Thursday September 21st, 2017 At the Hague University, hosted by PIP’s David Schoch.
In order to make this event successful we are not only inviting the students and staff of The Hague University to join this event, but also the general public. Participants will be dancing to the local Carnival music of St.Maarten brought to you by dj Sunny Sjoerd, giving them a little taste of our wonderful culture. Local food and drinks will also be on sale.
Participants can register at the donation booth at the entrance of the school starting from Monday 18th September, 2017 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. A participation fee of 2 euros is required and any other monetary donations will be participated. Red, White or Blue attire, which are the colours of our St.Maarten flag and the Dutch flag is also highly appreciated.
This event will be the largest musical chair event that will be hosted in the Netherlands. The winner will receive a prize and also the official recognition for winning the biggest musical chair game in The Netherlands.
Although the current atmosphere in St.Maarten is grim, the vibrant and resilient spirit of the people endures. We invite you to be a part of this fun yet charitable cause. Help us to help our island to rebuild and return to the sunshine city that we have come to know and love!
We thank for the help we received from our sponsors ADCS, PIP, ACKU, The Hague University, Verhuurbedrijf Zuid-Holland, Eurest, INTAC, International IAM.
