8 January 2012 – Chairman Wybe Taekema welcomes all those who had come along to the Klokhuis New Year’s Reception organised by the A&W Community Association, Het Klokhuis Foundation, ‘t Klokhuis Association and the Wijkbus Stap-In.
The event was again well attended this year with a number of new faces. For example Deputy Mayor Karsten Klein, The Hague’s alderman for Youth, Welfare and Sport, and Gert-Jan Bunck, Director of the Centrum sub-municipal office. And as usual the local choir Archicapella and our trusty string orchestra provided a festive note.
The main duty of the afternoon for the Chairman was to award the A&W Ereprijs: an annual award recognizing a local volunteer’s exceptional service to the community. This went to Gilles Hooft Graafland for among many other things his work on the ‘Wall Poetry’ initiative. Chairman Taekema also drew attention to A&W’s digital media: website, newsletter and billboard in Dutch and English. An attractive flyer was distributed so that guests can spread the word among their neighbours and acquaintances. And of course Klokhuis volunteers kept everyone supplied with delicious snacks and drinks throughout an extremely successful afternoon.
The chairman noted that the subsidy source for drinks and snacks had dried up. Fortunately, the wine shop De Gouden Ton on Denneweg extended a helping hand in the form of a gift in kind: six boxes of wine. They are due a toast – cheers!
